PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE (PPL)
The Private Pilot Licence is the first step in aviation training. This licence will allow flying under visual flight conditions with your friends & family as passengers and for recreational purposes.
Course Duration
3 to 5 months on a full time basis.
Requirements
- Be at least 16 years of age in order to go solo.
- Complete a minimum of 45 hours total flying time.
- Complete 8 theoretical exams.
- Flight test consisting of general handling and a navigation test.
- Have completed a restricted radio course (oral exam).
- English Proficiency level 4 and above.
Practical Training
The minimum hours to obtain your Private Pilot Licence on a fixed wing aircraft are 45 hours.
- 30 hours of dual flight training with an instructor on a fixed wing aircraft.
- 15 hours of solo flight training including a minimum of 5 hours solo cross country navigation flight.
Theoretical Training
The following subjects need to be passed with a pass mark of at least 75% (all exams are online based multiple-choice questions conducted by SACAA):

- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Flight Planning and Performance
- Human Performance and Limitations
- Aircraft Technical and General
- Restricted Radio Telephony Certificate
